I broke my rules for you
laid my backbone down to play welcome mat
to your love and
your needs and
your ego and
I wanted you to love me
and that was all that mattered
I know myself a hard thing to hold
vibrant and
vibrating with energy
I swallowed my words to make myself palatable
coated my truths in sugar
sweet silence
and it didn’t matter
none of it has a chance to matter
you were gone by morning either way
