ghost [poem]

I’m a ghost in sheep’s clothing
a circle in trigonometry class
a hollowed out tree
I pretend to be human
a living breathing lie
I’m trying
really
reaching out when I notice the chance
to socialize
to be one of them but
but I don’t try hard
I don’t follow up
on vague requests to meet up for coffee
or go out to drink
I just let silence
dissolve the expectation of interaction
until I’m alone again
just the way I like
haunting the place I call home
