the dragon [poem]

if home is where the heart is
then I’m glad to call you my castle
a fortress of protection when my squishy parts are
battered and bruised
you are the dragon
guarding my tower as I rest
because every knight thinks he’s prince charming
but they never bother to actually learn my name
and so you don’t let them bother me at all
you are the moat
with all its alligator allies
the jaws and claws that deter the undetermined
from reaching my keep
you are my home
because my heart is safe
under the blanketed warmth of your roof
