karma lessons [poem]

can I brush my fingers along your jawline
lean in until my lips whisper across your cheek
and tell you it’s over?
that you mean nothing to me
beyond a means to an end?
can I break your heart
twist the knife just so by telling you
the silence between us was deliberate?
that it was meant to starve what we once had
to rot the ties that bind in favor of leaving us disconnected?
can I remind you of your own actions
and unkindly return the favor?
like karma
can I be your karma?
I can think of a few lessons you must’ve missed
